Volunteer with CultureLink
CultureLink provides opportunities for individuals, particularly newcomers to Canada, to learn, practice, and utilize their newfound skills and knowledge. Volunteering is one way to obtain valuable local experience, often requested by employers. Volunteering is also an excellent way to gain valuable new references while building social and professional networks and connections in the community.
The following opportunities are currently available:
Coaches and Referees
This is for the Summer Soccer League for Newcomer Youth. For more information or to apply, email Francisco.
Gardeners for the Global Roots Garden
Newcomer seniors and youth are welcome to apply. Deadline is March 31, 2011. Please email the Gardener Coordinator.
Members for the Youth Steering Committee
Please email Francisco for the Parkdale Youth Space Initiative.
Volunteer Mentors
Culturelink’s Community Connections Mentorship Program provides a variety of mentoring opportunities to foster your leadership qualities. Please call 416-588-6288, ext. 210, to inquire.
Additionally, newcomers who would like to obtain their first Canadian work experience can apply for volunteer opportunities with the New Canadian Experience initiative where newcomers are engaged in meaningful volunteer activities and at the same time, receive support from a dedicated volunteer mentor within volunteer programs.
Check back often to learn about other upcoming opportunities. Volunteers can contribute to CultureLink in many other areas, such as assisting with special events like the CultureLink Annual Picnic, holiday celebrations, and cultural festivals. Volunteers provide interpretation and translation for the Roma Program (Hungarian and Czech) and for the Newcomer Seniors Centre (Chinese, Polish, and Spanish). With the Library Settlement Partnership, volunteers facilitate English Conversation Circles. Our reception desk is often staffed by volunteers seeking local work experience.
Volunteers also play a crucial role in governing CultureLink by serving on our Board of Directors and various committees of the board. Our Youth Advisory Committee guides the work of the Newcomer Youth Centre. Also under development is a Cycling Advisory Committee, which will assist with the planning and outreach for the Partnership for Integration and Sustainable Transportation, a joint initiative between CultureLink and the Toronto Cyclists Union.
