Newcomer Settlement Program
There are two services offered under the Ontario’s Newcomer Settlement Program (NSP)–the Employment Supports Services and Settlement Services.
The Employment Supports Services, funded through Ontario’s Newcomer Settlement Program, offers newcomers and refugees up to one year of individual employment counselling to address the various employment barriers they face in Canada. We help a wide variety of clients write professional resumes and cover letters, prepare for interviews, and develop a job search plan for securing employment. This program complements the Job Search Workshop, as it allows our employment team to serve clients who are not eligible for, do not need, or have already completed a group workshop.
Through the Settlement Services, CultureLink and Roma Community Centre work together to provide settlement assistance to Roma and other newcomers. The Centre assists refugee claimants with completing their applications for asylum, as well as other settlement issues. The Roma we serve are predominantly from the Czech, Slovak, and Hungarian republics. For these service users, immigration issues and day-to-day settlement services are addressed, such as dealing with social services and other local, provincial, and federal organizations.
