Cybersecurity Training Program

For many newcomers, establishing a career in Canada is an important step to living a fulfilled life. If you have a strong interest and educational background in IT, pursuing a career in cybersecurity could be an exciting career move.

Our cybersecurity training enables you to work towards your Cybersecurity Fundamentals Certificate. Our 10-week free course has been developed with the help of cybersecurity professionals from around the globe. It follows ISACA’s ITCA curriculum and all material is to ISACA standards, meaning you can be confident it’s a course that will set you up to succeed in this industry.

During the program you’ll advance your knowledge in connection and layers, as well as in network architecture language and infrastructure. You’ll also develop a greater understanding of security operations, response of information security, threat landscape and securing assets. 


  • Receive free lectures, online practice materials and practice exams.
  • Meet weekly with cybersecurity professionals to discuss your interest areas in more depth.
  • Attend monthly networking sessions with potential future employers and cybersecurity professionals.
  • Access employment counselling and settlement referrals.
  • Enjoy a learning model that mixes in-person sessions with independent study, under the direction of industry professionals.
  • Take part in peer study groups and learn from others.
  • Review the material ahead of each class.
  • Complete a mock exam after finishing the preparation classes for the certificate.
  • Draft a career plan and job search strategy, including interview preparation.
  • Continue receiving mentoring and support after the training finishes, if needed.


  • Have a post-secondary education in IT, a background or high interest in IT
  • Be a Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee (not awaiting status or requiring renewal) or CUAET.
  • Have proof of a CLB language assessment completed within the last 24 months showing a minimum of CLB level 7 & 8 in all areas: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

How to join

  1. Attend an information session. You can see upcoming dates in our Events Calendar.
  2. Email expressing your interest in registering for the program.
  3. Complete our Intake Form and submit it along with your valid Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score.
  4. Attend an assessment interview.
  5. If you qualify, you will be asked to submit documents for registration.You’ll then receive confirmation of registration and a training start date.           

Additional information

  • The course structure is one week of Canadian career development training (Monday-Friday, 9:30am-3:30pm) followed by seven weeks of technical training for the Cybersecurity Fundamentals Certificate (Wednesdays and Fridays, 6:30-9:30pm). 
  • As part of the program you’ll also receive two weeks’ access to ITCA Online Lab.
  • The ISACA certificate exam is not included as part of the training, but you can go on to complete this. This is a paid exam and not covered by the course. 
  • If you aren’t successful in your application for the training, you can reapply the following year, providing proof of improvement in any areas of concern.
