Sock Monkey making Workshop for Syrian refugees

On Mar 11, 2016, CultureLink’s Youth Program hosted a sock monkey making workshop for Syrian refugees, following a successful workshop for CultureLink’s youth program participant where they made sock monkeys and donated the toys to CultureLink’s Refugee Distribution Centre. Diana Brugos and Tracey Speedie from Operation Sock Monkey kindly volunteered their time and expertise to run this workshop for the refugees at Lillian H. Smith Library.

We met up with the refugees at one of the hotels in downtown Toronto where they were waiting to be moved into permanent housing. The weather was a tad chilly but the short walk to the library was pleasant.

The women got to work on their toys right away. It was a welcome opportunity to get creative and spend some time with their friends creating cute little toys that they can give to their little ones afterwards.

The kids fun a fun time too! They got to watch an animated movie, and enjoyed a short storytelling session by our Arabic speaking youth volunteer Carine.
