Workshops and Community Events

Recognizing the value of community engagement, our Library Settlement Partnerships (LSP) program workers develop and deliver a variety of free workshops, group sessions and events for the newcomer community: Skills Development for Employment, Citizenship Test preparation training, English Conversation Circle, Understanding your Credit Score, Mortgage and Insurance, Networking and Cultural Celebration events, Wellness and Healthy lifestyle, Parenting etc. Group activities are designed to meet the needs of newcomers and delivered at the different locations including public libraries and community centres.

Citizenship Test Preparation Training participants at the Eatonville Library in February 2020: six sessions to learn and review Canadian history, geography, the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, governing system and other Citizenship test topics.


Newcomer parents appreciated the opportunity to explore creative ideas on science together with their children during the visit to Ontario Science Centre. The successful field trip was organized by LSP worker at Eatonville Library in December 2019

Networking Event for Newcomers at the Eatonville Library in August 2019: 29 newcomers, coming from different professional backgrounds and 13 children joined us for this event.


Citizenship Preparation Circle participants at the Mimico Centennial Library after completion five sessions covering all topics included in the Citizenship test: Canadian culture, history and geography, political system, national symbols, identity and values, the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.


On Canada Day in summer 2019 LSP clients had an orientation session on the history, design and facilities of Ontario Place at the Lillian H. Smith Library, then enjoyed a field trip to Ontario Place and had a great opportunity to experience a free IMAX double bill screening at the Cinesphere.
